Meet Bryan Jones

Bryan Jones

Bryan Jones is a technology executive, with roles spanning from working for publicly traded companies, serving as startup founder and CEO, as well as starting a venture studio and angel investing firm. An inventor, he has been granted numerous patents. Bryan began his career as a mergers-and-acquisitions and corporate finance attorney.

Bryan also spends a significant amount of time at the intersection of democracy and technology. He served as the Chairman of the Board for Stand Up Republic, a nonprofit organization focused on advocating for government reform in order to defend and strengthen American democracy, and is the co-founder and Chairman of the Board of Tech Policy Press, a nonprofit organization focused on the intersection of technology and policy. Jones also is an adjunct professor at the University of Texas School of Law, where he teaches on propaganda, deception and manipulation in the technology era.

Jones has Engineering BS, MBA ,and JD degrees, all from the University of Texas at Austin. He is also a former swimming World and American Record Holder, and US National Champion, having competed at the World Championships and Goodwill Games for the United States. Jones is a 22 time All-American for the University of Texas Men’s Swimming and Diving team, where he captained the 2000 NCAA Championship team, before swimming professionally for 4 years. Jones also is an Eagle Scout, the highest rank attainable in the Boy Scouting program of the Boy Scouts of America.

Hi Bryan, I am a graduate student at the University of Illinois studying artificial intelligence. I have always wanted to be involved in the Forward party and help bring us closer to a UBI. A few other students and I have been working on a prototype and designs for an extension to the citizenship portal for the forward party. Basically, it is a way to interface with the government using AI to outline/generate policies and collect data such as health outcomes, economic/social, and personal outcomes, etc. It has a chatbot that people can interact with as their government representative for the Forwardist Party through their citizenship portal where you can directly influence policymaking and the platform of the Forwardist party. We thought this would be an excellent addition to solely relying on listening sessions and surveys to gather public opinion on what would be a forward policy, instead relying on data and allowing the people to have a way to directly interface with the government. I would love to meet and discuss with you on the direction of this project and if it would be something that would be helpful. Right now we titled it policy web but of course, we are open and it is at the early stages of development currently.

Bryan, I wanted to reach out to you to share some of my radical ideas. First of all for this party to be successful I think ranked choice voting along with a full day off or two for elections would be huge taxes account for 15 percent of our earned income yet we don’t get a day off to make decisions on where those resources are spent. Second the system as it is set up is made to fail. I respect politicians but I don’t believe they have skills that many in the general public have. I would like to introduce a zero re-election policy. I’ve heard that politicians spend half of their time in office lobbying for re-election. What a waste of tax payer money. It also would incentivize politicians to have no political strings and act with their conscience. I wouldn’t mind if all terms were longer and were paid more… 8 year terms with a caveat. If you voted for that person in congress you would have the option to rescind your vote every 2 years. If a simple majority of people that voted that person in rescind their votes that person would be removed from office and a new vote would be held. The last and most important idea I would like to share is a balanced budget amendment to the constitution. Our current political system allows government officials to not perform their most basic duty which is to pass a fiscally responsible budget. This simple task that all businesses and households must do is not politically popular. When the government is allowed to get over their skis and simply raise the debt limit they are jeopardizing the future of the union. At some point future generations of poor people will suffer and at that point there could be massive unrest. I’m proposing a balanced budget amendment whereby congress and the president must pass a balanced budget. They can chose not to pass a balanced budget however at that time all of congress would be out of a job and not allowed to re-run for election. The American people deserve the right to fire people who don’t do their job and the last few decades of politicians have not put us in a viable financial situation. This trend will not stop with our political system. I think if you brought forth this idea there would not be a candidate that gets elected in the US that doesn’t back a zero tolerance budget amendment to the constitution.
