Forward Party of California and Common Sense Party to work together to bring a better political choice to California voters

Sacramento, CA - In a move to empower independent-minded California voters, the Common Sense Party and Forward Party of California are combining efforts to change politics in the Golden State for the better. Using the ‘Common Sense Party’ name, this new political coalition is the future for independent-minded and solutions-oriented politics in California. This joint effort reflects a commitment to unleashing the political power of state and local leaders to better represent our diverse communities through common sense problem solving in government.

Both the Common Sense Party and Forward Party were built in response to widespread demand for a more civil, responsive, and unifying politics in America. In California - where one party dominates the state government - 61% of voters say a new major party is needed. That demand for a new political home has driven a tremendous response for both organizations, building a burgeoning new party movement across the Golden State. By joining forces we are accelerating our joint efforts to reinvigorate our politics by bringing greater choice and common sense back to California.

Under California law, new parties must register approximately 73k voters to be officially recognized as a political party in the state. Forward Party members in California will now register for the Common Sense Party, joining the already nearly 30k registered Common Sense Party voters. Volunteers across the state will be able to work together at the grassroots level, leading through our shared values of cooperation and problem solving.

Joint Statement by Andrew Yang, Co-Chair of the Forward Party, and Tom Campbell, former Congressman and Chair of the Common Sense Party:

“We are thrilled to join together to craft a new kind of politics for California and the country more broadly. This is the kind of collaborative political work that people are hungry for. Voters deserve a political choice that rejects extremism and puts problem solving and consensus building above petty partisan politics. That’s precisely what this new party stands for. California voters are tired of the dysfunction coming out of Sacramento, and soon they’ll have the chance to move Forward with Common Sense.”

The Forward Party is bringing Democrats, Republicans, and Independents together to build a new kind of political party that represents the interests of the majority of Americans who reject extremism and division. https://www.forwardparty.com

The Common Sense Party was founded in 2019 by former US Congressman and state legislator Tom Campbell. The Common Sense Party is focused on increasing voter participation, and encouraging pragmatic problem-solving and fact-based decision-making in our state and local governments. https://www.cacommonsense.org/
