The Maryland Forward Party is off to a hot start with our signature collection efforts. We’ve held events over consecutive weekends and are making phenomenal progress towards becoming a viable, durable, and formidable party. We also got a huge boost from our generous donors who helped us surge towards our fundraising goal.

SC attended three free events and collected about 66 signatures this past week and weekend. We did canvassing at the Mariannne Williamson campaign event in Charleston, we tabled at a Health and Resource Fair in No. Charleston, and we tabled at an event at a church in Florence.

About a week ago North Carolina turned in our first batch of signatures to the Wake County Board of Elections (we have to do everything by county). We got the signature sheets and a report back this week (all standard procedure). Our signature success rate was 94%. We’ve been told to expect success rates of 50 or 60% … or perhaps even less, but we’ve focused on getting “quality” signatures, not just quantity. We’ve got a long way to go but 94% was a nice boost for our first at bat.

Illinois Forward Party has raised $10,000 in the first two weeks of our fundraising efforts! We also have fully filled our Interim Board of Directors and completed a draft of our by laws.

This week, AZ FWD organizer Sean Reneau will be hosting his first community event in the West Valley. Additionally, the leadership team will be hosting the last of this month’s “County Captain” training session for volunteer circulators. Finally, the team is excited to share that they recently received their Compliance Memo (and are in the process of obsessively committing it to memory)

This week the Arizona crew hosted Andrew Yang and several member of the HQ team for an AZ FWD C.A.R.E.S. event at the Escalante Community Garden in Tempe. We had a great time getting our hands dirty and working together to weed and plant food for those in need.

This weekend the Arizona team will be hosting our first partnered AZ FWD C.A.R.E.S. [@Alex can you link the previous to this explainer page?: https://www.forwardparty.com/arizona_forward_party_c_a_r_e_s] event with Tempe Community Action Agency (TCAA) at their Escalante Community Garden. Thanks to this arrangement, we will now be able to promote monthly civic engagement events with TCAA and help to build a thriving community in the East Valley.

We are also pleased to share that we have been approved to “Adopt a Road” in Maricopa County and will begin scheduling more recurring C.A.R.E.S. events in the coming weeks.

Forward Ohio Captain Mark Harris and fellow Forwadist Danny DeLuca hosted an Athens Bi-weekly Meetup: Featuring Gia DeLisio at Red Brick Tavern in Athens, Ohio on March 6, 2023. The event was well attended. While at the event Danny DeLuca and Mark Harris raised awareness for their food drive initiative for the residents of East Palestine, Ohio who have been and remain impacted by the devastating train derailment earlier this month.

The AZ FWD Team is actively recruiting county leaders to help with signature collection. Since launching last week, they’ve onboarded almost 40 new organizers and will be holding their first orientation/training session on Friday. The team is also actively promoting the Phoenix FWD Together event around the valley and will begin posting hard copy advertisements around the state this weekend.

Students at the Colorado State University (CSU) in Fort Collins officially filed their paperwork to start the first official college chapter in the state: CSU Forward.

Our come-to-us signature gathering event initiative launches this Saturday with the first event in Boulder.

Dave Ryan will be joining the state leads team as the 4th Colorado state lead.

Two members of Forward TN appeared before the General Assembly again yesterday to oppose a second bill that would close primaries. There was better engagement and better dialogue with the committee members this time, and one of our members was quoted in a local NPR piece. https://wpln.org/post/tennessee-has-open-primaries-but-republicans-are-trying-to-close-them/ The bill passed, so we’ll be back at it next week.

The AZ Team is now actively recruiting leaders in all 15 counties to assist with signature collection efforts. Onboarding is underway and orientation/training is scheduled to begin on March 10th. The Team is also excited to announce that their first organizer-led event in Fountain Hills will be taking place this Saturday.

The AZ FWD Team is completing preparations to launch their county leadership initative. These will be the leaders responsible for signature collection in their regions once the process starts in the coming weeks.

Two members of Forward TN appeared before a House committee today to oppose a bill that would require voters to declare one of the two political parties in order to participate in primary elections.

The bill failed in committee!

The Executive Committee of the North Carolina Forward Party met in person for the first time this weekend and were joined by National representatives to strategize and review the next steps necessary for official party recognition. On President’s Day, following this weekend’s summit, NC Forward also submitted their “New Party Petition Request” to the North Carolina Board of Elections. Shortly after receiving their approval of our petition, we will begin our signature gathering efforts across the state.

Forward TN appeared before the Tennessee General Assembly’s Election and Campaign Finance Subcommittee this week to argue against a bill that would require voters to declare a statewide political party in order to vote in primary elections. We will follow the bill to a full committee next week and speak to its senate companion bill as well. HB0405/SB1144.

Forward Colorado teamed up with the other minor party and independent interests in Colorado to defeat SB23-101 in committee, which would have taken away the ability of minor parties to access the ballot without petitioning each candidate on separately. Colorado’s Voting Reform Lead, John Lembke, testified on behalf of the Party and joined the harmony of voices demanding the bill be stopped. The bill was voted down 4-1 on Thursday.

Forward Colorado also identified a new Events Lead, David Ryan, as well as two new Community Organizers: Paul LeBrun in Fort Collins and Valerie Herenchak in Crestone!
