Suhas Subramanyam's Victory in Virginia Senate District 32 Race

The Virginia Forward Party leadership supported Suhas Subramanyam in the recent Virginia Senate District 32 race held in Loudoun County. We are thrilled to announce that Suhas emerged victorious!

This was a remarkable opportunity to elect a proven leader who shares our values and vision for a better Virginia. As a member of the House of Delegates, Suhas has consistently demonstrated his commitment to service by supporting Ranked Choice Voting and co-chairing the bipartisan Commonwealth Caucus, which prioritizes the interests of all Virginians.

Arlington County Embraces Ranked-Choice Voting

Another important milestone in Arlington County: the implementation of Ranked Choice Voting (RCV) for the first time in Virginia during the Democratic Primary Election for the office of County Board (2 seats) held on June 20, 2023.

The introduction of RCV in Arlington County was met with resounding success, as evidenced by the ARLnow publication poll. An overwhelming majority, nearly 75% of those polled, expressed that they were not confused by the voting process or the tabulation process. This positive feedback indicates the effectiveness of RCV in fostering a clearer, fairer, and more accessible voting experience.

Policy Working Group

Our leadership team is about to send out invitations to participate in Virginia Forward’s Policy Working Group to engage in conversations about broadening our policy priorities. We have been planning the Policy Working Group for some time, and there have been several delays. Now, however, we are in the final stages of working out the procedures that will be used in our discussions and voting for those new policy priorities. Expect to see more communications about this after the week of July 4.

Candidate Support

We already have begun supporting one candidate, Suhas Subramanyam. However, support for more candidates will be coming. A questionnaire is being finalized to send out to candidates that we are considering supporting. Additionally, we are working to invite candidates to come speak at local meetings. We already have seen several suggestions on Discord for candidates that we should support. Please continue to provide suggestions as we look to send out questionnaires and speaking invitations.

Forward Party Summit Update

The Forward Party Summit, which was scheduled for the previous week, unfortunately had to be canceled. Virginia Forward raised sufficient funds to send delegates. However, several states were unable to attend, leading the national Forward Party leadership to make the difficult decision to call off the summit. In lieu of the summit, we are turning our focus to building up our Virginia organization so that we can become a Battleground State by the end of 2024.  More details to come.
