The Supreme Court Just Gave Parties More Power. This Hurts Americans Unless They Level the Playing Field

July 1, 2026

Washington D.C.

Yesterday, the Supreme Court decided to increase the amount of money that political parties can wield on behalf of their candidates.

In their decision on the case National Republican Senatorial Committee v. Federal Elections Commission, the Court struck down the previous rules that limited direct participation from parties in candidate elections. In the past, political parties had been very restricted in what kind of money and assistance they could give candidates, but this decision frees up those restraints.

Political parties have too much power already. Full stop. This ruling gives the existing political elite even more ability to coordinate and control the narrative. It is a net negative for the average American voter (who doesn’t have millions of extra dollars to contribute to parties and candidates).

It’s never been more clear that the people need a party that represents them. One that can benefit from the rules that parties have built to protect themselves. It’s time we fight fire with fire. The best way for the people to have a real voice in politics again is for a new party to form that works on behalf of voters, and not entrenched political elite.

Enter, Forward Party. We’re here to give every day Americans the same leverage that the two parties have. Only we won’t use that power to break the government for our own gain. We’re using it to give Americans their voice back.

If we want a fair and representative government in the face of this new decision, the FEC must act to ensure Independent Parties – like the Forward Party – can qualify as “National Party Committees” and take advantage of the same coordinated spending rights that the Court has just given to the Republican and Democratic Parties. If today’s decision is limited to only granting a benefit to the two major party committees, the Court will have tilted the playing field against minor parties – who have just the same candidates as the Republicans and Democrats do. When the Forward Party applies to the FEC to be granted National Party Status – it will use today’s Supreme Court decision as one of the reasons we should be granted that status.
